## CREATING YOUR OWN FILE FORMATS

In print design, you use _file formats_ to save specific types of information. You can use a specific file format to save your work, store it on a disk drive, or send it to another designer to review.

As you're creating new designs, the very act of saving your work creates a new file format. You can save files in multiple file formats, and using different file formats and file paths can help you organize and preserve your work. Also, to give your files more longevity, you should save your files in formats that can't be damaged easily.

The following sections show how to use some of the most common file formats to store information and also teach you how to navigate a computer's file system.

## WORKING WITH PICTURE FILE FORMAT

Almost every graphics program will save files in a pict or picture file format. Technically, you could use a text file to create a design, but a picture file is a more desirable option because it preserves the image, removes any unwanted ink, and makes the design more legible. Figure 2-1 shows you a picture file that looks much like a typical desktop picture in most graphics programs.

Basic Editing Tools

Each image needs to be managed (edited) in some way. Whether you’re taking a photograph and you want to change the exposure and color temperature, you’re editing an image you made with an app like Photoshop, you’re putting together a collage or you’re editing a photograph that’s already in your library, you’ll likely be using the basic tools that Photoshop has to offer.

You’ll need to crop, rotate, filter, enhance, make adjustments and apply effects to your images. Each of these tools in Photoshop works in a similar way. We’ll discuss each tool individually and teach you how to use them effectively.

Adjustment Layers

Adjustment Layers in Adobe Photoshop Elements is similar to the Levels and Curves options you see in Photoshop. All adjustments are made by clicking on the layers that appear on your image.

By clicking on a layer, you’re toggling it on or off and you can apply any of the tools available to that layer to make an adjustment. You can also use the Select and Heal tools to correct or paint on your image.

You can also combine multiple adjustment layers, apply each in turn and then adjust them with a single click. Just be careful that you’re not accidentally selecting the parts of the image you’re not happy with.

You can create up to eight adjustment layers to use in your images. Each adjustment layer has a default of 50% opacity. You can use the following tools to adjust individual or multiple adjustments.

Import/Export Layers

In Photoshop, you can save any adjustment layer as a new layer which you can export and use elsewhere. You can also manipulate an image with multiple layers and use the Apply Image function in Photoshop to apply the adjustments to the entire image.

The present invention relates to a method for producing a semiconductor device and, more particularly, to a method for producing a semiconductor device having a conductive layer containing a conductive impurity.
In recent years, various researches and developments have been made on a technique for allowing a semiconductor integrated circuit to operate at a low voltage as well as improving the degree of integration of the circuit. In order to meet the requirement of such developments, it is necessary to reduce the resistance of the gate electrode of a MOS transistor. A silicide film is generally formed on the gate electrode of a MOS transistor to reduce the resistance of the gate electrode. However, if the gate electrode is composed of polysilicon, an excessive silicide reaction is caused by a high temperature when the silicide reaction is performed. This problem becomes more significant as the degree of integration increases. To solve this problem, it is effective to reduce the thickness of the gate electrode and to use metal as the gate electrode.
However, since a metal gate electrode is composed of a single metal, and thus is low in resistance, the area of a source region and drain region cannot be increased to a high degree and, therefore, a higher degree of integration cannot be achieved. A gate electrode formed of a polycide having an upper portion of a polysilicon film and a lower portion of a metallic silicide film has been proposed in order to avoid the above problem.
This gate electrode is generally produced by forming an upper polysilicon film, a metallic silicide film, a lower polysilicon film and a silicide layer on a gate electrode composed of polysilicon, followed by selective etching the silicide layer. The upper polysilicon film contains an impurity such as phosphorous to reduce the resistance of the upper polysilicon film. The lower polysilicon film has a thickness that is selected appropriately so that the work function of the gate electrode may be adjusted to a desired value.
However, in this method, it is necessary to etch the silicide layer and the polysilicon film simultaneously, and thus the selective etching requires an extremely high degree of accuracy. If the selective etching is not accurately performed, the thickness of the upper polysilicon film may not be uniform or the upper polysilicon film may not be properly defined on the gate electrode. This is the reason why a semiconductor device of an excellent quality cannot be produced.
