Final Fantasy XIII-2 has many things that are not to like. While it attempts to be something really cool, it instead just falls flat in its mechanics, execution and overall quality. When you start the game, you notice it takes a little bit to warm up to the characters. The plot is very dark, as well as the gameplay itself. Your party is in an eternal stasis which is extremely depressing. Nowhere else in the franchise are things so downbeat as it is in this game.

I would actually label the game as a very mediocre action-RPG, rather than an action-adventure-RPG. The game plays well enough, but the game suffers from many flaws that will make most hardcore RPG fans want to take a shower, and perhaps change their underwear.

For starters, the story is simply not good enough. There are too many clichés, plot holes and dialogue that are simply cliche. The game also suffers from problems with pacing, meaning the game is rather slow in the beginning and really picks up the pace towards the end.

At the beginning, you fight your way out of a prison, defeating a giant creature known as the beast. After you're free, a young girl named Serah and her friend Noel are taken captive by your enemy, Adam. You must help Serah escape from Adam and his army. However, the story is so weak that most people that you encounter never seem to remember meeting you, nor do they remember what you said to them, and their dialogue is also terrible.

Speaking of dialogue, many characters also sound like the voice actors were playing the actual text over again in the game. One character in particular, the father of Serah and Noel, sounds like he was reading the dialogue from the script and a character's name. Dialogue is also rather simple, as most people just shout out their orders, rather than speak to you, or talk about things that are personal.

The gameplay itself is one of the best elements in the game. You basically play as Lightning, who is now a strong enough fighter that she has a sword of her own. During the game, Lightning will be called upon to fight various creatures. Once you defeat the creature, you will receive a new item. With these items, you will be able

  That will not work this year.
