Google built the browser game Dinosaur Game, sometimes referred to as Chrome Dino, and integrated it into the Google Chrome web browser. The objective of this game is to keep the pixelated, horizontally scrolling dinosaur from running into obstacles in order to gain more points. The game was developed in 2014 by meobjective members of the Chrome user experience development team.

The Lonely T-Rex, a tyrannosaur that moves relentlessly from left to right over a desert with just two colors—black and white—is controlled by the player in Dinosaur Game. The user will have to jump or crouch over obstacles like pterosaurs and cactus while traveling. The dinosaur will "jump" instantly if the user hits space on the keyboard or makes touch with it on a mobile device; otherwise, it will "crouch down." The speed of the game will gradually go up. The game will end suddenly when the lonely T-Rex character runs into any obstruction.

Upon reaching around 700 points, the screen of the game will change. To symbolize the change from day to night, light gray on black graphics will replace dark gray on white graphics, and the visuals of the sky during the day will change into nocturnal graphics.[A] The game will switch between day and night and back again while being played. The game's creators have set a time restriction of almost 17 million years for any player to get the highest score. This also covers the whole period of time that tyrannosaurs were on the planet until they became extinct 66 million years ago.

When the player tries to start the Dinosaur Game, an error notice will appear if they have disabled the game using the network administrator function. There will be a meteorite on screen that is moving near Lonely T-Rex.
