* For general image editing, the Photoshop Elements edition is a perfect entry-level program (see Book I, Chapter 7). It's a great alternative to Photoshop if you don't need the professional-level tools.
* Photoshop itself can cost anywhere from $150 to $1,000 for basic edition to the more expensive $700-$3,000 for the CS6 standard version. Additional features and versions increase the price.

Getting Started

One of the things that makes Photoshop so popular is that it is well designed and is very intuitive. Following are some of the basics of starting and using the program.

Taking a tour

To see what Photoshop looks like, start Photoshop by choosing Start | Photoshop. You'll see the Adobe splash screen as shown in Figure 4-2. Click the New File button to see the screen shown in Figure 4-3. If you want to open a recently saved file, click Open Recent (refer to Figure 4-3).

I go through the steps in a bit more detail in the upcoming sections. But you can see that I am at the navigation bar with my documents. To the right of the name of each document is a symbol to indicate its type. Here you can tell if the document is a Smart Object (see the left document in Figure 4-3), a layer that uses masks or a linked file.

Always choose the New Document option in the New File dialog box, but don't save it as yet. You may find it easier to work with a new file and then save it at the end.

On the left side of the New File dialog box, you can see that in my case I have a variety of types of document files in three types of containers. I have a Photoshop PSD, or Photoshop document, a JPEG, and a PDF.

You can access more of the menu options (that is, all the tabs of the New File dialog box) by clicking the More Options button at the bottom-right corner of the dialog box. For example, you can choose the default size of the new document:

1. Select the size and type of your new document.

2. Click the down arrow and choose the size you want.

3. Click in the width and height areas and enter the width and height

Adobe Photoshop Elements is a good choice for anyone who only wants to make a few basic tweaks to a photo. For a little more power, many users prefer to move up to Adobe Photoshop.

In this article, we’ll compare the features of the Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 and Photoshop CS6 programs to give you an idea of what is included and which program you might want to use.

1. Designing

Designing in the Adobe Photoshop Elements 11 gives you simple controls for cropping, red-eye removal, adding or removing borders, layers, annotations, frames, and other simple tools.

The interface makes it easy to add a background photo. You can also place an accent border and add special borders with dotted, solid, and dashed lines. The main tools for editing the contents of the image are the standard tools for image editing:

Choose the typeface for the text.

Choose font size and type.

Add text to any area of the image.

Change the font style and color.

Change the size and color of the text.

Reduce or increase the size of the text.

Add special text effects.

There are additional tools for creating and editing text, adding graphics and effects, and editing simple shapes like lines, boxes, and ellipses. To use these tools, choose Edit > Text > Transform > Type and then use the tools under the Type panel to transform the text into a different shape or size.

Let’s look at some basic graphics editing. Elements makes it easy to move objects around and place them where you want. For example, this graphic of a grandmother looks good placed anywhere on a web page.

Click the Pencil tool, choose the starting position, and click the place on the page where you want to place the graphic.

You can also move objects with the rectangle and the ellipse tools. As the name implies, the ellipse tool makes any shape, including an ellipse. This graphic has a cute rooster:

A unique opportunity in Japan

As is the case for all classes of vessel, training becomes a permanent feature of life for the crew of the NFTS. For the students it is a wonderful chance to learn and experience life at sea, including the education part.

During the open day, one can expect to see around 30 naval students of all ages aboard the aircraft carrier. On the ground, students will be taught in English, Japanese and the naval traditions of the country. As well as seafaring skills the students will also have lessons in naval history, naval traditions and will be expected to learn and adopt the maritime culture of Japan as they become part of the MSDF.

The Falicon Muda Japan CFM III

The Falicon Muda Japan CFM III features a flight deck capable of handling naval aircraft with up to 15 students at any one time. Like CALYPSO, the Falicon Muda has an external single piece elevator. On December 9th, 2016, once again the people of Oregon were targeted by residents of other states wielding their new-fangled firearms. Oregon Gun Grab. Hasn't America had enough? This is the fifth time in sixteen years and the fifth time in the last five years that I, as the Oregon State Board of Higher Education, have to administer the Results Accountability Act (RAA). Fortunately, Oregon has every right to make and use edicts against the people of other states, but there is no "reasonableness" excuse for Oregon's RAA's that are accompanied by a "public safety" agenda. The latest RAA is an extension of an earlier and innocuous attempt to fix a problem a few years ago.

Oregon has a history of ignoring this issue, even when it is before it's time. However, we have had progressive Democrats who have attempted to appease the gun grabbing forces, and other RAA approved governors such as Kitzhaber, as well as the two most recent Oregon governors (Kitzhaber and Brown). However, my personal favorite example of Oregon’s indifference to potential safety threats is when Kitzhaber’s predecessor, Ted Kulongoski was Oregon's governor when, on March 11, 2006, his predecessor, John Kitzhaber, who was then the Oregon State attorney general, permitted the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department to have direct access to databases maintained by the Oregon Department of Justice. [1]

Well, this latest RAA, which was the 15th attempt by the Oregon State Board of Higher Education (OSBHE) to implement the RAA, includes multiple new RAA requirements that impact college and university students—or, more accurately, the students’ parents or guardians—on campuses across the state. For example, there are new procedures that Oregon citizens must abide by:

• all handguns, other than pistols, must be surrendered immediately upon entering state institutions of higher education;

• Locksmiths and other tradesmen must be included in lists of personnel designated to work in secure areas to assist individuals in this process.
