Photoshop does not natively support animated GIF images. If you need this capability, you must use a third-party, commercial tool.

Creating Photoshop images

You can create both traditional digital still images as well as animations. Although we don't cover animations in this book, Figure 8-1 provides a brief explanation of how to work with animation Photoshop files.

Creating traditional digital still images

Digital still images are those files that only contain raster or bitmap images. Although they are created in other programs (such as Photoshop Elements or Paint Shop Pro), you can manipulate them into more compelling imagery in Photoshop. Many of the images you create in Photoshop can be saved or saved as JPEG or PNG files and can be used anywhere on the Web.

Understanding the Photoshop file structure

Each Photoshop image is stored in a single file or folder. The file is a collection of individual objects — such as an image or a text or illustration object, along with an attribute list, including the layer name, an attribution, and a color-correction settings list.

Save frequently as you work, as you want to be able to roll back and make corrections. You can save frequently for the following three reasons:

Because you can make changes to a document, you may want to store multiple versions of it before saving.

Saving frequently will increase your chances of reverting to a previous version if you make an error or realize that something's not right with the file.

We hope that when you're done with a file, you like the end result so much that you want to save it and keep the file in a safe, secure location on your computer.

Like this idea, Adobe also encourages you to save periodically. If you need to go back to a previous version, just open the file with the most recent version and click the history tab. Photoshop displays your history to the right, as shown in Figure 8-2.

Setting your preferences for Photoshop

Photoshop displays settings options in the main menu. You can also create new preferences, if you like.

You can view a document's presets under the File menu. If you haven't already set the default settings that you want to use for future documents, click the Preference Settings button to the right of the New Document button to open

Currently Photoshop Elements is the best alternative to Photoshop. This software comes as a free download from the Adobe website. It is a download or an online version of the software. It can be installed on your Windows PC, Mac or Linux.

Packing

If you are installing Photoshop Elements on your personal computer then there are some things you need to keep in mind.

Download the latest version of Photoshop Elements from the Adobe website.

Download the latest version of Windows, 32 bit or 64 bit.

Run it.

You will have a Licenses or Registration window. This window can be automatically closed or dismissed after purchase.

Restoring a previous version is also available, for example if you found it difficult to install the software. You can restore it to a previous version.

Setting up the User Interface

On your computer, go to the Photoshop Elements interface on the desktop by following these steps.

Windows

Right-click on the desktop > Select Properties >
On the Target screen, select the Photoshop Elements directory.

Type the name of the folder and click on the Create button.

To rename the folder, simply drag the folder and release the mouse button.

Mac

The process is the same:

Right-click on the desktop > Open the Photoshop Elements folder.

Double-click on the main folder.

Windows 7 & 8

Right-click on the Desktop > Select Properties >
On the Target screen, select the Photoshop Elements directory.

Type the name of the folder and click on the Create button.

To uninstall

Use the same steps to remove the software from your computer.

Windows 10

The process is the same:

Dynamically changing input width

I'm trying to change the input width dynamically based on the amount of characters of the text area. Is there any way to do this? I'm looking for something like this:

I'm adding input dynamically so that there are max one input per text area.

You can use setAttribute to add css-style properties to an element. This is an example of what you're after.
$('input').attr('width', $('#text').val().length * 10);

For dynamic styling the way to go would probably be to use some type of stylesheet editor, like CSS Templates, or a plugin.

There was a time when I knew the MLS season well.

The same day I would tune into the Philadelphia/DC United match, I would sit down at my computer and watch the Union play. Back in the day, the Union were one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference, finishing runner-up to D.C. United at the 2006 Supporters’ Shield.

For me, the Union was the team that I watched in the past.

I would cheer on the Union, the league’s best “small market” team. I would root for them, not because I thought they would win anything major, but because they were such a great team. They had a great mix of veterans and young players, and they had a well-respected manager in John Hackworth.

Back then, I cheered for the Union because I knew that playing at the Philly SoccerPlex was great. I would get to go to the game at historic Franklin Field, and I would see a passionate Philadelphia crowd.

It’s hard to see the Union today.

Prior to Sunday’s match at PPL Park, the Union have not won in 13 games. They are last in the Eastern Conference, and they only have two wins in their last 10 games. Their two wins were against the mediocre New England Revolution and the Central Texas Strikers.

The Union didn’t score until the eighth minute in their match on Sunday. By the time they had the chance to score, they were already trailing, 1-0.

Philadelphia needed a response after a Brandon McDonald header from a free kick in the 34th minute. Only two minutes later, D.C. United would score the only goal of the match, 1-0.

I think the biggest issue for the Union is being out of form and falling behind the pack in the Eastern Conference. When I watch the Union play, I realize they are not good enough. They are one of the worst teams in the league. They have no purpose on the field, and they are content to give up the first goal and hope for a comeback.
