Most images are composed of layers, which are transparent images that can have other images overlaid on them. Layers enable you to use the power of the tools in Photoshop to edit, refine, and manipulate individual pieces of an image.

You can click and drag image layers to reposition them; click on the home icon (top left) to open up your Photoshop's window and return the active image to its original state; click on any border (the box around the active image) to bring up a menu with a variety of options, including full image display and the "Save for Web" command.

Photoshop's workspace can be organized by image area, which are rectangular areas that can be selected as a whole to select a subset of pixels. When you select an image, you are only selecting its background (layers underneath). You can then choose from a list of tools to modify that image. You can also add new, or "active," layers, so that you can manipulate and edit the image without affecting any layers beneath it.

Tools

Adobe Photoshop creates its own proprietary file format, which keeps all the data files together and makes them easily accessible. These file formats, which are available for free download from Adobe, such as JPEG, PNG, GIF, TIFF, and PSD (Photoshop file extension), are highly compressed and very efficient.

Basic Photoshop Features

Layers

For graphic designers or illustrators, Photoshop has always had a layer-based workspace. A layer is like a separate element that you can move around, copy, cut, and paste. Layers are important for separating a single drawing from the background so that you can combine or rearrange different drawings. This lets you build a final image from multiple layers. Layers are also important for correcting mistakes or fiddling with a complicated drawing.

Some of the basic tools you can use to edit layers include the Move, Rotate, Scale, and various other tools.

Be aware that not all elements are separate from the background. This means that you cannot select some tools or tools that are used to select other elements. You can still edit the background, as it is just a raster image.

The following image shows an illustration of a Photoshop Layers workspace.

Edit Layers

You can move layers by dragging the layer name to the left or right of the image window. To do this, go to the Layers panel, double-click on the name of the layer, or press the delete key.

You can also drag and drop a layer by selecting the layer name and dragging it elsewhere.

You can also resize a layer by either dragging the resize handles to resize the layer or by double-clicking on the layer name.

You can also rotate a layer by selecting the layer name and clicking on the Rotate icon.

You can also scale a layer by dragging one of the small sizing handles. You can rotate a layer and resize it at the same time by double-clicking on the layer name.

You can also lock, unlock, select, deselect, and change the blending modes of a layer. The blending modes are used to determine how much transparency one element will have. You can use the following blending modes:

Normal – the default mode which means that the layer will not have transparency.

Hard Light – this adds lightness or brightness to the image.

Soft Light – this adds lightness or brightness to the image.

Darken – this adds darkness or darkness to the image.

Lighten – this adds brightness or

A Perfect Place for a Wedding

Although my talented friend, Danielle, suggested I see the view from her upcoming wedding, I did not think I could easily find such a place. I am not normally a fan of weddings, and although I have been to a few, I have always ended up feeling bad for these couples and their mothers and fathers, who have to attend. I suppose I just could not understand what they were missing out on, as I heard the parents are nothing more than background music for an hour or two of daydreaming.I did find this place though, a perfect place for the wedding. The main grotto was reminiscent of a church with wooden pews and marble like decor. Inside this grotto were rustic decorated archways and tables for the guests to hang out. At the front of the grotto were a waterfall and a huge waterfall. It was stunning.
