1. Start Photoshop.
2. Click the Create a New Document button at the top of your screen.
3. After the document opens, drag the New Layer icon (at the top of the Layers palette) to the left to close the Layers palette and open the Photoshop image.
4. Create a new layer, and drag the Define Corner button (the little triangle icon) at the top of the Layers palette to the right to open the dialog box shown in Figure 9-1. This dialog box has a variety of options that can be adjusted to alter the look of the image or help it fit a specific format (such as Web or print size).

5. **Click OK to close the Define Corner dialog box and return to the Layers palette.**
6. **Click the New Layer icon to add another layer, and then click the Open button for a previously used image or file.**

The image opens in Photoshop.

7. **Click the New Layer icon to add another layer.**

Be sure to save the project before you add any layers. Otherwise, you risk losing a lot of time reworking a design you spent so much time creating.

8. Click the New Layer icon in the Layers palette.

9. In the Layers palette, click the Add New Layer icon (with the five arrows pointing outward) to bring up the Select menu on the Layers palette.

The image opens with a background, usually black or white.

10. Click the Fill icon (the small square with a blue dot inside) to modify the color of the image. Click the Gradient tool to activate it.

The Gradient tool looks like a line with a yellow dot at the end. If you're unfamiliar with this tool, see Book IV, Chapter 4 to get the scoop on it.

11. **Click and drag to create a new gradient across the length of the image.**

Drag to adjust the angle of the gradient.

12. **Choose a color from the color well.**

Photoshop allows you to use colors from a color well and even create a custom shade by setting the HSL, RGB, or CMYK.

Stock and Unlocked

Photoshop Elements have two different styles of editing: Stock and Unlocked. These are standard versions without a lot of features or tweaks that are usually not included. There is a third option: Creative Cloud unlocked. With Creative Cloud you are provided with more options but the price is higher. Photoshop Elements also has a special subscription program with a big discount that you can read more about here.









Stock Photos

One of the good things about Photoshop Elements is the tremendous selection of stock photos. You can download free photos and you can buy photos from Adobe Stock. You can see what Adobe Stock has to offer and where to find your needs. The pro version of Photoshop Elements has a Adobe Stock filter.

When you select a picture from Adobe Stock, you can see the prices and terms from the bottom of the palette. You can delete any stock photo from the canvas. When you are done with your editing, you need to export your pictures. You can choose between creating an editable PDF or JPEG. You can also download your picture as an ARK.









Flickr

If you have an account at the Flickr website, you can edit your photos with Flickr. The services are free but in order to use it you need to sign up. You also need an account at Adobe Stock.









Basic Editing

You can edit your pictures and add effects. You can add decorations like frames and borders. You can also adjust the brightness, contrast and color. It is also possible to crop your pictures and trim the edges. When you are done, you can delete or save your pictures. There are plenty of useful tools like the Clone tool, the Spot Healing Brush, the Liquify tool, the Gradient tool and the Clone Stamp. It is also possible to add a vignette, curves and more.









Basic Image Effects

You can also add simple effects. The effects are very easy to use and you will find many interesting tools and filters. Basic effects include sepia, posterize, vibrance, black & white and color filters.

Qualitative and quantitative characterisation of dentin-adhesive interfaces through simultaneous-initiating demineralisation and TEM-EELS.
The aim of this work was to gain detailed information about the interfaces between a dentin bonding agent (Scotchbond Multipurpose Adhesive, 3M) and dentin. The interface between the adhesive and the material was characterised in simulated clinical conditions using sequential planing for adhesive demineralisation followed by transmission electron microscopy electron energy-loss spectroscopy (TEM-EELS). The EELS maps with the elements Os, Ca, Si, P, F, Na, Mg and Cl in the dentin substrate and the adhesive were generated and correlated. The maps showed a spatial distribution of elements in the dentin substrate and the interface between the adhesive and the substrate, which differs from the known chemical composition of the dentin and the adhesive. The hydroxyapatite in the hybrid layer formed within the first 24 h. The polymer matrix was located between the adhesive and the dentin substrate for up to 12 h. After that time, the polymer matrix was still present in the hybrid layer but the elements Si and Ca were highly enriched in the adhesive and were not detected in the substrate, thus confirming the diffusion of the adhesive molecules across the interface. The diffusion of the elements from the adhesive to the substrate was related to the hydroxyapatite formation in the hybrid layer. This study demonstrates the feasibility of detailed characterisation of in situ interfaces between dentin bonding agents and dentin, and in using TEM-EELS for this purpose.[Interaction of cholic acid with the liposomes of different compositions. In the work, composition of liposomes was varied by changing the amount of the ethanol in the ethanol-cholesteryl oleate mixtures. It was shown that the bile salt interacts with the liposomes more intensively than with the n-heptadecane. Hydrophobic interaction of bile salt with liposomes resulted in the orientational ordering of lipids within the membrane. It leads to accumulation of the cholesteryl palmitate chains in the membranes of the apicoplasts and mitochondria. At the same time the same bile salt decreases polarity of the bilayer. It is supposed that the bile salt may induce the formation of more ordered microstructures of the lipid membranes
