How to Edit Photos Using Photoshop Elements

Step One: Open a New Document

Launch Photoshop Elements.

Click the little arrow at the top of the window and then open a new document.

The default size for a new document is 300x600 pixels. You can change the size, orientation or resolution later.

Step Two: Open a File in Photoshop Elements

Open a new file in Photoshop Elements.

You will need to navigate through your computer's file system using the File menu.

Photoshop Elements can open files from a digital camera, phone or external hard drive. The file type will appear in the top right corner of the window.

You can use the CTRL+click or CTRL+A on a file to add it to the current document.

Step Three: Organize Your Document

Click the Rectangle tool.

Move your cursor over the top-left corner. Click the green square where you want your image to be placed.

Drag the image up to the top of the window. The image will be placed above the top-left corner.

If you release your mouse button, the rectangle should snap into place and show how it fits the size of your window.

Q:

Getting touch events from the background activity of my application

I have a application in which I need to get touch events from the background. So, I am embedding my activity into a service and when my activity becomes the foreground, I can access the view v with getWindow(). This works fine.
The problem is that I need to handle the touch events in my activity when it's not the foreground activity, i.e. when my activity is suspended and when the user resumes.
I tried handling the touch events in onCreate() but when the user brings my activity foreground, I lose the events.
Any ideas?

This was very easy to do and may be helpful to others.
Basically, you have to register the touch handler everytime you get a callback of onResume(), which you do automatically when your activity is activated.
And you simply unregister the touch handler every time you get a callback of onPause().

Legislation Making Its Way Through State Senate Explores Whether Employees Of Public Works May Be Attacked

Lawmakers are weighing legislation this session that would require public works employees to use personal firearms when they respond to incidents in which police officers are dispatched. But the bill faces opposition from the Police Union, which is pushing for a change in state law in the face of a Federal Bureau of Investigation crackdown on illegal gambling.

Sen. C. Anthony Muse, the Democratic senator from Charles County who introduced the Senate version of the public works firearms bill, said he found it "odd that there is almost no mention of police officers, which is why I referred to it as a public works bill."

"I really believe you should be able to protect your own life," said Muse, adding that the legislation was aimed at preventing innocent people from being killed by accidents involving public works employees.

The Senate version, with an amendment, would require public works employees who are called to emergencies involving individuals with mental illness or intoxication to draw and discharge their firearms, unless police officers are on the scene. Muse, a Baltimore County Democratic commissioner, said the bill was also meant to protect the lives of public works employees who are called to perform services during a riot.

Employees of public works agencies like the Department of Transportation and others also would be required to carry firearms.

The Gradient tools allow you to select colors or patterns for smooth transitions of colors. You can use the Gradient slider to change the brightness of a color, and the Opacity slider to change the percentage of transparency.



The Hand tool allows you to create various free-form shapes. You can select the size and shape of a Hand tool by holding the Shift key while you click and drag.


The Lasso tool allows you to select a free-form shape. The size of the Lasso tool is set by using the Offset tool.
