The best way to learn Photoshop is to start using it. Instead of considering it a learning tool, think of it as a paint program. You may not necessarily paint or draw, but start making your own art. As you paint, you will learn what Photoshop can and can't do.

The standard size for photoshopping in the online world is 550 pixels wide and 375 pixels tall. If you need to edit a photo larger than 600 pixels wide, view it on a computer monitor twice its width. For example, use 800 pixels wide for the photo to make it look right.

The editing features of Photoshop are accessible from the Image menu, and for most tasks, the tools appear automatically as needed. However, to explore Photoshop's offerings, I recommend that you start by doing a tour through the keyboard shortcuts.

Tapping into the shortcut keys

Photoshop uses shortcuts and keyboard keys to help save you time and reduce the number of keystrokes you need to make edits. The majority of the time, you use just a few common keyboard commands. For example, many times, you use the Selection tools to define the area of the image you want to change. After selecting the area, you use the Size tool to resize the image. Keyboard shortcuts save time and also teach you how to edit images efficiently.

Working with the Layers panel

You can use the Layers panel as a background, a canvas on which to place images, and a working space for making changes. These features and the many ways you can arrange them give you a truly powerful tool that enables you to quickly and easily work with many different types of images. (See Chapter 8 for a detailed discussion of layers and what they are and are not.)

Using the various adjustment tools

To create or edit images, Photoshop offers a large collection of tools and filters that enable you to perform the basic tasks of adjusting images. This set of tools is called the Adjustment panel.

When you need to use some type of adjustment (such as curves or levels) from the adjustment panel, you find the button next to the image on the Layers panel.

Photoshop offers a number of different adjustment tools and filters. You find a list of these tools and filters on the right side of Figure 3-1. For now, let's review the most commonly used tools and then discuss how to use them.

With Adobe Elements, designers can adjust colors, contrast, and brightness of images, crop, re-size and organize photos and images, draw on images, apply artistic effects and more.

Photoshop Elements can be used to edit existing files or save new images directly from the program. It has all the features and functionality of its bigger cousin, Photoshop, but with a simpler interface.



We’ll take you through the basics of this clever program, which is both fun and user-friendly to beginners. And once you’ve learned how to edit with Photoshop Elements, you can use the software to create digital images and artwork, simply and easily.

The Functionality of Photoshop Elements

The main features of Photoshop Elements are in the editing, organizing, and modifying parts of the program. You can use these tools to modify a photo, such as coloring one’s hair, or editing the overall picture.

There are more than 50 editing tools in Photoshop Elements. These include Fill Layers, Levels, Curves, and Adjustment Layers, the major tools you’ll need to edit images.

The Levels tool is often a great option for adjusting brightness, contrast, and other settings on your images. Fill Layers are useful for adding specific shapes and colors to your image. Adjustment Layers are best used to adjust the general appearance of your image without changing the content of your picture. These Layers are often useful to add photo effects and filters to images.

When you crop an image, you’ll discover that you can choose the center of the image by simply clicking and dragging the crop tool. Photoshop Elements has more than 200 predefined presets for various types of images.

There are also features in Photoshop Elements that are useful for web design and graphic design. You can use them to create, place, and combine elements in a web design. For example, you can use the “Create a new Artwork” feature and combine various shapes and designs to create a background or a typography element for a web page.

The user interface of Photoshop Elements is very simple. It uses a similar design to the one in Photoshop, including the familiar control bar that provides access to the commands.

You’ll also find that the toolbars are flexible and responsive. They display icons, are easy to navigate, and make it easy to use the tools.

I looked up the email in my old accounts and saw a message from me, that I was being offered the position. I haven't heard back from them, but looking it up I noticed on the page for the position that they have to provide a resume to the candidate.

I would love to have this job, but I'm not sure how to prepare a resume with out the job on it (obviously).

So I decided to submit my resume and see what happens. I'm still waiting for a response from the department head. But I noticed that last week, I got an email from them asking my previous work history, so this could be a dead end for the position they are hiring for, so I will update when I hear back.

I got an email back saying that they are not interested anymore in my resume. I hope they just want to hire someone with more experience and are just kicking me out of the race because I am older and have less experience. I want to think that there is a chance because this job is a great one in my school. But when my official rejection letter said, "We cannot place you in this role and are no longer interested in candidates with your expertise."

I am really not sure what to do with this new job. I heard back a week ago about the job that I was interested in, but now I am ready to "retire" and their job is now in play for the position. Which means the other job, that I was interviewed for a week ago is still in play. It's frustrating because I want both jobs. I want to get as many interview calls as possible because my goal is to get to 50 calls, and I have so far only had 3.

I am just lost with this new job. The interviewer called today. I started crying while I was on the phone talking to him. I have been doing a lot of crying lately. Maybe I'm just a crazy emotional person?

Sorry I am on here more than my siblings think. When I am here, I feel like I am not as busy or as tired as they are.

Using relational operators in list selection

I would like to write a list of names from a list and join them into one result list. My code looks like this:
Lp = ['a', 'b', 'c', 'd']

Lresult = []

for x in Lp:
for y in Lp:
if x == y:
Lresult.append(x +'and'+ y)

This leads to the following result:
[a and b and a and c]

Which I'm not interested in. What I would like to get is:
['a and a and b and c']

I guess I need to use some type of relational operator, but unfortunately the default operator is not the one I'm looking for.

After looking through a bit I found the function chain which does what I want with the following example:
Lp = ['a', 'b', 'c', 'd']

Lresult = []

chain(Lp, 1) == ['a and a and b and c']

You can use string formatting to compose your string:
Lresult ='and '.join(['%s and %s' % (x, y) for x, y in zip(Lp, Lp[1:]))]

This uses the more natural zip(Lp, Lp[1:]) instead of using for x in Lp:. It is also more efficient.

inheriting a template class with template argument

I am trying to inherit a template class with template argument. I am getting an error saying "error C2955: 'T' : illegal use of class template" and I am not able to figure out what is wrong. Below is the code which I am trying to execute.
