Adobe Photoshop CS5, which was released in January 2012, has a number of significant changes for photographers. These changes include:

Improved elements of the retouching work area

The addition of several new Photoshop plug-ins available for purchase in the Add-Ons marketplace

The addition of new, improved Photoshop features, such as the Liquify Filters

Photoshop CS5 is a large upgrade from the previous version, Photoshop CS4. It is one of the fastest-selling upgrades for any major release of Photoshop, largely because of the new Content Aware Tool, which allows you to perform automatic image correction by using the content of an image. It can do amazing things with just a bit of tweaking, such as remove dust or blemishes on your subject's clothing. This feature is particularly useful for compositing images.

At the same time, Photoshop CS5 has many other enhancements and improvements for photographers that many of us will find useful. However, if you're just starting out with Photoshop and you're feeling overwhelmed, you'll most likely want to stick with the previous version, Photoshop CS4, until you're more comfortable using Photoshop.

You can upgrade to Photoshop CS5 with a single purchase. Find more information in the "Upgrading to Photoshop CS5" section later in this chapter.

Understanding Photoshop Elements

Photoshop Elements, available as a free download from adobe.com, is a scaled-down version of the most popular version of Photoshop. It's easy to download, and it allows you to get a sneak preview of what Photoshop can do by opening the software and working with your images before investing in a full version. Photoshop Elements 4 is a bit buggy and missing some of the more popular tools available in the full version of Photoshop, but it is useful and is growing quickly. See the "Understanding Photoshop Elements" section later in this chapter for more information.

Launching Photoshop Elements

You can launch Photoshop Elements by following these steps:

1. Open the Start menu.

2. Select All Programs from the Start menu and click on Photoshop Elements.

King Beach, 11th February: A popular beach destination during the summer, Marriot Blackpool is said to be the swans new home in 2018, just as the once immaculate sands reclaimed by the waves are left charred by the sun. After a sharp decline in hotel occupancy in recent months, the hotel group now faces a much thornier problem than just one underperforming location.

While a spokesperson for the chain said, “They are continuing to invest but as we go into summer next year we are facing some revenue issues because we don’t have any May bangers,” but we are told some of these won’t make it back. We have confirmed that the Marriot’s other properties in the chain are in a period of extensive refurbishment with the goal to re-enter the market over the coming months. The four brands that make up the Marriot chain are still under the same ownership, and have been turning their attention to growth since the group was taken over by the French luxury hotel group LVMH. The aim is to continue to attract customers once their locations in the UK are redeveloped.

Amid such changes at the top of the league, some are banking on a prolonged down-turn in the hotel market, and the risk of under-development, to provide a boost in the room and resort industry.
