_Note: Some newer versions of Photoshop have been made available as a subscription-based service called Adobe Creative Cloud. It's been a hotly debated topic because of how much users can do without charge. The jury is out on how well this will work. For those who have access to Creative Cloud, we will still refer to Photoshop in its older, sub-free version. A subscription is discussed in the Icons section._

**On Macs:** The Mac version of Photoshop costs $359 and is available as a free upgrade to Adobe Premiere Pro (see the Icons section). Photoshop CS and Photoshop CS3 are $399 and $999, respectively. Photoshop CS5 is $1499, though it is available as a free upgrade to Adobe Creative Suite.

**On Windows:** Photoshop is a $499 program from Adobe. It's typically downloaded as a stand-alone software bundle. There's also an inexpensive Adobe Photoshop Elements version that features five effects and a host of image-editing tools.

Although Photoshop can be used to work with a variety of file formats, it is by far more popular for working with layers of raster images.

1. To open an image in Photoshop, select Image→Open. This displays the dialog box shown here. You must have Photoshop or Photoshop Elements installed on your computer.
2. Layers are an integral part of the way a raster image is constructed. However, they are not invisible, and they can be very useful in creating complex images or correcting mistakes.
3. To add a layer, click the New Layer button. A layer appears on the Layers palette.

Photoshop layers can be stacked and merged. In the example on the left, a layer is shown on top of another and another still. You can merge layers to copy, merge, or dissolve layers—both by dragging them. The example on the right shows two layers merged. A layer can be divided into smaller parts for a more-defined, textured appearance.

The Layers palette can be displayed in three ways. By default, it appears in a box that floats atop your open image. You can also display a subpanel.

The default view shows a collection of groups of layers grouped together. This can be helpful if you're working with a series of related layers. To return to the floating view, click the Display menu and then click Image Layers

If you only want to edit an image and don't have experience with Photoshop, Adobe Photoshop Elements is a perfect choice.

In fact, it is so easy to use that you can learn to use this program in just a few minutes.

1. How to Make a Graphics Design for a Keyboard

Suppose you want to create a cool graphics design for a keyboard. Photoshop Elements provides the most effective tool to complete this task.

In this tutorial, we will create two different designs:

a. Splitting the design into two parts.

The first step is to create two textures that we will splice together to form the two halves of the design.

Create the Part I: Use a Smooth Gradient Texture

Open a new file, choose Tiles > Texture.

In the Texture library, filter by Gradient.

Select the bright gradient in the image below.

Press the Select > Modify > Expand.

Set the Scale value to the desired size.

Set the Blend mode to Overlay.

Set the Opacity value to 50%.

Use the Brush tool to paint over the design.

You will see the effect on the texture like on the image below.

Save the texture. You will use it for the part I.

2. Combine the Two Parts

Create the Part II: Use a Thin Gradient Texture

In the same way, create a thin gradient texture in the same way as we did for the part I.

This step creates the second half of the design, so it is highly recommended to save this part before continuing to the next steps.

3. Add Text to the Letter

Now, we will add text to the letter.

Go to Layer > New > Layer via Copy.

Select the second half of the design, move it to the bottom of the layer group, and rename the new layer text.

You will notice in the reports of steel pricing that I have fallen back a bit from my previous trade levels and it may seem as though I have stopped my plays at the point of the all-time highs. I know that that is not the case as can be seen in my commentary where I was calling for a pullback from my highs. Since reaching the all-time highs for the series of trade levels I have continued to trade, but as it began to be obvious to me that we were going to have a slow grind up to these levels I began to hedge my strategies and pull back from my highs to sustain gains in cash and take advantage of the small pullbacks that presented themselves.

As of now I am bullish on Stet, just as I was bullish on WMB when I had originally recommended it last winter. I personally think the shares are coming back from its bear market low because of the accumulation of bullish opinions as shown in the increasing number of filings for new shares. I have not seen as many filings on this level for the last year, but since announcing my accumulation buy recommendations the number has been steadily increasing, and we are now seeing some new companies announcing plans to float. I really like this recent trend and it would seem to be in direct opposition to the extremely negative news about the Chinese economy as it appears they are really finally taking their hand off of the reins and trying to do something constructive.

The most recent earnings from CBIS are what has caused me to reassess the way I am evaluating this dip and have definitely raised the question mark over the value of this dip. You see I do not see any urgent need to accumulate in this stock at this time. It does appear as though we are just trimming the string in the hopes that the stock can find its way back into the post-election rally that is expected to have its day by Christmas. The company has had three quarters in a row of declining earnings, but it has been the earnings as well as the stock that have been going down. On a forward earnings basis this stock looks cheap, but if one takes a look at the quarterly reports of the last few months they show an acquisition of a mining company, some failed acquisition plans and some acquisitions that were plainly successful. The company has added a trucking company in its last two quarters and has been trying to acquire a company that makes graphite electrodes, which, at least in my opinion, should help to stabilize the price

Squalene synthase (SQS) catalyzes the last step in the biosynthesis of vitamin E (alpha-tocopherol), cholesterol and other steroidal natural products. We used the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae as a model for SQS studies. We found that long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (oleic, linoleic, and arachidonic acids) and sphingoid bases (dihydroceramides) induce expression of a S. cerevisiae YAP1-SQS fusion protein and increase SQS activity in a synthetic transcriptional activation system. Other fatty acids such as saturated fatty acids and acyl chains differing in the length and degree of unsaturation did not induce transcription from the yeast SQS promoter. Analyses of the S. cerevisiae nuclear factor NGF1p/RKx1p transcription factor binding sites in the SQS promoter led to a discovery of a novel regulatory element, termed carboxylic acid response element (CAR), that responds to the induction of SQS by fatty acids and ceramides. In contrast to long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids and sphingoid bases, unsaturated fatty acids have no stimulatory effect on SQS in vivo.Q:
