Python ImportError: No module named wmload

I am new to python.
I have just installed python 2.7 using the
apt-get install python2.7 python-wxgtk2.8 python-wxgtk3.0

The wxpython is required to use matplotlib, for which I downloaded wx and imported wx. This imported wx successfully.
However when I try to import matplotlib, it shows this error: ImportError: No module named wmload.
I checked the wx and wx.libs on my system and both are updated to the latest version.
Any idea on what to do? I was using python 2.6, and also had the same problem then.
